Matt Hema will bid farewell to the Guernsey shirt as one of four new caps in our side to play in Saturday’s IPES Siam Cup in Jersey.

Hema, who is expected to play at national two level for newly-promoted Bury St Edmunds next season, has recovered from his facial injury picked up in the controversial defeat against Tring several weeks back.

But he is back and hoping to show the might of Jersey his outstanding ability before heading off a new challenge.

‘He got the final clearance to play only on Tuesday and we had to wait for the specialist before we could finalise the side,’ said Jordan Reynolds.

Fellow New Zealander Glen Walters will also get his first taste of Siam Cup rugby, as will powerful centre Ned Brown and flanker Greg Smith.

Others who could come on for their Siam debuts from the bench are Simi Sawene, Dale Martin and Daniel Mann, who is a newcomer from the UK.

Also among the replacements is the fast Anthony Armstrong, who recently played his part in the 2nd XV’s destruction of Les Quennevais before heading back to university in Scotland.

There is also a place for former Siam winning skipper Andy Bailey.

‘It’s a strong team for us, but it does not compare to what we are up against.

‘It has a lot of potential though and we want to go out and put in a performance to honour the Siam Cup.

‘We want to go out and perform the best we can and this year we want to have a big focus on attack and offer something to the Siam.’

More to follow from Jordan tomorrow.
