‘We were very fortunate to have nearly 30 players available to play in this year's Siam Cup game, but obviously this meant that some very tough choices had to be made when it came to selecting the final squad of 23 players,’ he said.

‘However, we feel we have a very strong and balanced team with cover on the bench that can fill every position.’

Kristine Vavere leads the side out for the second year in a row and she has no greater admirer than the coach.

‘I know she will do another fantastic job of captaining the team as she has done all season. We have experienced leaders in other positions throughout the team as well as quite a few girls making their Siam Cup debut which is great to see.

‘We are confident that we can go over to Jersey and bring back the trophy for the fourth year in succession but it will not be easy and we know we will have to give everything we have in order to succeed, but that is exactly what we are willing to do.’

After a championship-winning debut UK season, the side have been starved of action of late, but Griffiths says they have retained their focus.

‘We have trained exceptionally hard for this game but were hoping to have had a warm up game or two before which unfortunately we just couldn’t make happen.

‘Due to the fact the season has been very long and we have had a lot more games this year we have been nursing a few injuries but we’re confident we will be at full strength come 1pm on Saturday.’
