Winning with plenty to spare in London, 38-5 against Harlequin Ladies, they move to second in the table.

Let’s start at the beginning.

They flew to Gatwick at 7am arrived via coach in Tottenham around 10.30am where they had been given directions to by someone at the RFU, got changed and were warming up ready for a midday kick off, only to be told by some chap at around 11.30am that we must be in the wrong place as he was training there.

So, they checked with the opposition and sure enough they were waiting for us at a ground near Twickenham.

The team bus then hurtled across London and eventually kicked off at 1.15pm thanks goes to the agreement of Harlequin Ladies and the referee who were willing to put off kick off to allow the game to be played.

On the way back to Gatwick they got stuck in a nine mile tail back about 10 miles from Gatwick.

‘We were definitely going to miss out flight, but again thanks goes to the Guernsey Under 9 team and coaches for swapping their 7.30pm flight with us allowing us time to get home,’ said the coach.

‘Thanks also goes out to Aurigny who had the common sense and understanding to allow us to change the flights at such short notice.’

As for the rugby.

Harlequin Ladies started strongly and would have scored the first try but for Mae Skillen at fullback who put in a crunching tackle to save the day.

The early storm was weathered and eventually we found our rhythm.

The Guernsey scrum was as always very powerful and all game we had the opposition going backwards.

Having go forward in the scrums meant we were always playing on the front foot from the set piece and with some powerful runs from the base of rucks we eventually broke them down and No.8 Vicky Rang burst through a few tackles to run the first try under the posts.

More pressure was piled on, again coming from a lot of direct running and controlled phase play, and the second try came from some great forward running and a lovely run from scrum half Hannah Lord who was a thorn in the opposition’s side all day. Hannah broke a few tackles and found her fly- half Jemma Crouse on her shoulder and with a well timed offload ran in a try from 10 metres out.

The scrum half was to then score herself after more pressure exerted from Guernsey in the scrum saw the ball pop out the back and Lord was on it in a flash and ran in from 20 metres out to score in the corner.

Three more tries were scored by Guernsey in the second half, another two from Hannah Lord as she was at her poaching best at the base of the scrum and another strong run from the impressive Rang after some great team play meant the tally was now 38-0. Jemma kicked four out of the six conversions and very narrowly missed making it five from six.

It mattered not that Harlequins scored late on and who could begrudge them after their sporting behaviour earlier.

Griffiths was delighted:

"We were always in control of the game, the scrums were very solid and we never really lost our shape. We looked much more composed this week compared with the Portsmouth game two weeks ago. The score line could have been even more impressive but for the disallowed try and the fact we had three driving mauls held up either just before or over the line."

"This season continues to be a work in progress but the progress is there. We are still unbeaten and have the best defensive record in the League thus far, and we will continue to make sure our defense is as strong as possible all season."

"There are some areas we need to work on, the lineouts still aren't functioning as we'd like so we will work on that over the next two weeks before a big game against Southampton Ladies at home on the 26th October."
