Let's be consistent, says head coach. WOW, that was some game. In fact two ‘some’ games, coming after the thrilling Ladies game earlier.

WOW, that was some game.

In fact two ‘some’ games, coming after the thrilling Ladies game earlier.

More of that later, but let’s concentrate on that brilliant Raiders win to start with, clinched in dramatic fashion by Owen Thomas’ superb drop goal from distance.
Head coach Jordan Reynolds has been reviewing the footage today (Monday) and is adamant that it most definitely carried the bar.
He has also been talking about finding the necessary consistency which will take Raiders to the top reaches of National Three London and South East.

'We know we can do it,' he said. 'We compete against the top sides, but against others we drop off a bit. We have just got to be more consistent. You can's put up a performance like that and not back it up.'

The head coach rates the performance against Westcombe was the best in two seasons when they beat Dorking, 'It was one of our best performances for a long time. Both sides were fantastic. Defensively it was so good.'

Raiders now face three top sides in the space of three weeks.
They play Shelford, who are level on points with them, away this Saturday, followed by a home game against seventh-placed Hertford and then a trip to second-placed Tonbridge Juddians.

Win those three and Raiders will be very much in the promotion mix, 'The games are coming thick and fast. All we want to do is improve and the results will speak for themselves if we improve.'

As for those final moments as Westcombe drove hard for our line and the winning score, he says he was confident they would not score, 'The funny thing is I wasn't too stressed out. We had stopped their drives time and again and I had faith in our guys. I felt we deserved to win, but if 'Combe;' had scored they would have probably said the same.'

It was also close for Chris Griffiths’ ladies XV who held onto beat Jersey 22-14, ‘The performance from the team as a whole was in fact really good, if not without some areas of concern that need to be addressed before we play Lewes at home on Nov 29th, but defending a strong lead with Jersey throwing the kitchen sink at us in the second half was very encouraging and vital in helping to turn our season around.’

The pick of the tries came from full-back Chelsie Blondel and the coach singled her out for praise, 'There were some outstanding individual performances in what was a strong all round team performance, in particular Chelsie who was outstanding at full back under an aerial barrage in the second half in particular. We also had an opportunity to use some different combinations in the backs and I am pleased to say there were some pleasant surprises and gives me something to think about for the next match.’
