RAIDERS’ unbeaten run came an end to a powerful G-Force from Grinstead, but there was some plus points from a busy weekend.
The Guernsey Ladies completed a league double over New Ash Green and the Guernsey Rugby Association side featuring many of our youngsters and led by our old war-horse, Jim Regnard, won back the Inter-Insular trophy in Jersey.

In National Three London and South East, Raiders stay sixth in the table despite the 25-11 loss at home to G-Force. Strongly resembling Jersey, East Grinstead were as strong as expected but they also proved to be smart as they inflicted a first defeat of 2016 on Raiders.

Guernsey enjoyed plenty of possession throughout the clash of sixth versus fourth in National Three London & South-East at Footes Lane, but importantly the promotion-chasing East Grinstead had a great best defensive line that looked virtually impenetrable, ‘They deserved it, they are a good side and they will be fighting up in the top section of the league for the rest of the season,’ said Jordan Reynolds, who saw his side’s points come courtesy of a Matt Thomas try and two Own Thomas penalties.

In the sister isle, Guernsey regained junior club inter-insular honours with an extremely tight 12-5 win against the Jersey Rugby Association at Le Rocquier School.

The visitors claimed victory courtesy of two first-half tries, from flanker Chris Ahne and prop Ben Le Noury, against one from JRA prop David Day, also in the first half. It’s only Guernsey’s fifth triumph in the current competition, which began in 2000 and they just about deserved it.
On Sunday, Guernsey Ladies got the five-try bonus point their coach Chris Griffiths had called for, beating New Ash Green 33-10 on the KGV 3G.

New Ash Green, beaten 19-7, seven days earlier, were again a good test for Guernsey, but they were chasing the game from the moment Tanya Scholtz powered over after six minutes for the first score of the lunchtime kick off.

The first five minutes has seen Guernsey camp on the New Ash Green line and although the home side were held up on the line, Jemma Crouse took the tap penalty and her pass to Scholtz was met by a decisive burst of power and speed.

Crouse converted from close range and Guernsey were seven points to the good. It took another 20 minutes for Guernsey to register again, though. Crouse, the ever-alert scrum half, put Carly Parrott away and although the winger was held up, Scholtz snapped up possession and there was simply no stopping the pacy and powerful back-rower.

New Ash Green had their own powerhouse in full-back Kat Smith and just two minutes later her diagonal 25m run for the corner proved successful and the visitors were on the scoreboard.

Scholtz’s surging 30m run brought about the side's third try just two minutes into the second half and after an opportunistic short-range try by the impish scrum half Gina Iaquaniello, two tries from Fiona Ashworth, the second of which was a brilliant pacy, diagonal burst, sealed it.

Crouse completed a highly satisfactory afternoon by kicking the extras.
