At the start of a new year it is right that we reflect on another big year for rugby in Guernsey and, within that, our club.

2014 was a strong year for Guernsey RFC, even if we ended it with the first XV at the foot of National 3 London & SE.

The ladies have entered the UK leagues and made a terrific start under the coaching team headed by Chris Griffiths.

The club 2nds sit top of the Investec CI League and there are signs of real progress by the RBSI Academy which is producing a steady stream of talent for the coaches to introduce into senior rugby.

Meanwhile, it is the award season and I'm proud to see that rugby has a number of its star performers short-listed for the upcoming Guernsey Sports Commission Awards Night.

Our ladies team are in the running for the GSC Team of the Year award and their coach, Chris, is one of eight nominees for the Dave Dorey Memorial Trophy award for the outstanding contribution to development and/or coaching.

Finally, congratulations to young Dom Rice who is on the short list for the Sir John Loveridge Trophy which goes to the most improved young sportsman of the year.

On your behalf I wish them all the best of luck on awards night and at the same time on behalf of the club may I wish you all a happy and healthy 2015.

President, Guernsey RFC
