2nds march on.....proud 1sts come up short

THE day started with joy with a big win for Mark Stone’s JRA league table-topping 2nd XV and all was well.

Then the agony, both mental and physical.

As the 1st XV stepped out to the highly-emotional backdrop of the anniversary of what would have been little Max Craine’s first birthday, a powerful and determined title-chasing London Irish Wild Geese were in their faces.

But back to the start and that fantastic 55-5 victory for the 2nds over Beeches, a fourth straight win for the lads and one which keeps them at the top of the standings.

For the record, the 2nds ran in nine tries, three of them to former Siam captain Andy Bailey.

Dave Davison helped himself to two and there were one apiece from Ollie Daunt - a real stunner this one - Nico Ashplant, Cally Murdoch and Mitch Smith.

Add five conversions from Seoirse Lee and the margin was massive.

Guernsey 27 - 31 London Irish Wild Geese

In so many ways this was a very hard day at the end of a very tough week for Guernsey, one which ended with them still rock bottom of the table after this loss and being docked five points.

But league ladders do not always tell the truth and Jordan Reynolds' men are so much better than 14th and final spot in the National Three London SE standings.

Guernsey's three tries came courtesy of Jason Batiste, Matt Thomas and Blair Campbell.

There was one conversion from Sam Whitehead.

More to follow.
