FOUR hours of non-stop rugby awaits Guernsey rugby fans on Saturday.
The 'Super Saturday' ones with Chris Griffiths ladies side taking on Tonbridge Juddian Ladies for league points (11.30am) and before that game is finished on the main pitch in front of the Garenne Stand, the 2nds will have swung into action with a 12.30 start against Westcliffe 2nds on the old club pitch.
Then it is the big one at 2pm with Jordan Reynolds' Guernsey Raiders aiming to continue their promotion push with a fourth win in six starts in National Three London and South East.
Team news on the men follows tomorrow, but for now let's concentrate on the ladies who hope to ounce back after two early losses in their new, higher division.
The coach days that since the last game against Canterbury Ladies his team have trained hard.
‘It will also be a curtain raiser for the 1st XV game on the Garenne Stand pitch so we’re hoping that we will have good numbers cheering the team on in the stands,’ said Chris.
‘Two seasons ago we beat Tonbridge on the same pitch in a friendly match.
‘The result was very close that day but I think we certainly had the edge up front and we had an in form Carly Parrott who scored a few tries that day utilising the wider spaces.
‘We will not have Carly for this match and we will be missing centre Fiona Ashworth (both are off Island) and we are still missing the influential No.8 Vicki Rang through injury.
‘However we did not have regular fly half Jemma Crouse in that previous game against Tonbridge but we will have this Saturday and along with a strong pack and some powerful runners in the back line we know we can do some damage.
‘We are going into the game with a positive frame of mind and will hope to get our season back on track with a win.’
The Tonbridge game is the first of three home games in a row for the Guernsey ladies and the coach has set the minimum target of winning two of them.
‘I think if we defend as strongly as we did for the first 60 minutes in our last game against Canterbury then we will do well, our fitness should be improving all the time as well and this is not an area I foresee being an issue for us despite the larger pitch.’
