Three of the brightest prospects from the RBSI Guernsey Rugby Academy have been picked at under-15 level for the Hampshire county age-group sides.

The Guernsey U15 captain, Phil Le Noury, along with Matt Creber and Will Gray had their selection confirmed when the squads were announced by the county coordinator for games against Berkshire last weekend.

The games were played in very cold conditions at the London Irish training facility at Hazelwood, which overnight had received a good dumping of snow.

The first game was the Hampshire ‘A’ side, with Creber and Le Noury making the starting XV.

Hampshire played with good aggression and discipline with the majority of play in Berkshire’s 22.

In one of these attacks, and following a scrum within the opposition’s 5m line, Creber, playing at No. 8, was able to pick up and go for the first try of the match.

The Hampshire dominance remained throughout the first half.

At half time, Creber was subbed and replaced, while Gray came on as right wing, although he would move to his favoured position as No. 10 in the last quarter.

Le Noury played for the entire duration of the game and he almost scored a try with a charge down from a clearance kick, but with his numb hands knocked the ball forward as he tried to collect it from the floor.

The game ended 25-0 to Hampshire.

Creber had been taken off at half-time to sub for the first XV and within 15 minutes of the start of the game he was rewarded.

Following a questionable late tackle by one of the Hampshire forwards, resulting in a red card, the Guernsey youngster was asked to play as tight-head prop.

This game was much closer than the previous A teams clash and at times was scrappy, but Hampshire’s desire was stronger on the day and they won 18-3.

All three Guernsey boys played exceedingly well and the county coaches praised their performances.

Meanwhile, Guernsey U15 manager Andy Creber was equally pleased.

‘This step up for them is an honour for Guernsey and these games don’t happen without the support of the RBSI Guernsey Rugby Academy, its sponsors and the development team which inspire the boys to achieve.’
