Excellent performance from the U10s in their first games under full contact rules

The U10’s first match was against a well prepared Macclesfield team, with William Beasley and James Sines defending stopping the Sarnians falling too far behind. Guernsey came back strongly in the second half with Marcus Tomar scoring Guernsey’s first competitve try of the season.

Next up in Guernsey’s pool were an incredibly strong Warrington, who went on the win the entire festival. Guernsey did excellently to hold them to zero in the first half with some strong running from Harrison Mahe and Lewis Collins. Unfortunately Guernsey were undone by two late tries, despite some excellent defending from Ben Tostevin.

In their next match Guernsey held Western Vikings to a draw with tries from Xander Graham and Henry Whittaker either side of half time and were unlucky not to win the match in the dying seconds with a great effort from Max McCarthy.

Flyde were the final game of the pool and they threw everything at Guernsey, drawing into a strong lead, before Calumn O’Regan broke away from his own half to score. This was closely followed by an opportunist score by Joesph Webb from a Flyde error, but it was not enough to stop a Flyde victory.

Guernsey moved out of the pool matches to play against Didsbury Young Bedians. In a evenly balanced match the lead swayed between the two sides, with Jax Stone and Jacob Mayer tries being matched by Didsbury. Elliott Clarke then took advantage of a broken field to score the decisive try.

The team then attended the awards ceremony hosted by Sale Sharks players and were presented with a shield. Manchester Junior Chairman Allan Power commented that “the Guernsey team had played with true rugby spirit and were a pleasure to host”.
