Busy weekend ahead: 1st and Ladies in action at home, Colts and U15s both away kicking off their league campaigns and U13s in Jersey

Jordan Reynolds might be wishing he was in Chris Griffiths shoes at the moment.

While the Guernsey Ladies coach has no injury concerns and a large squad to choose from ahead of this weekend’s league game at home to Portsmouth Valkyries, poor Jordan is facing reduced options by the match and training session.

There’s a joke going around the squad that he might even consider playing again himself!

As things stand Jordan is not able to announce a starting XV for the visit of Barnes, but skipper Blair Campbell and Robin Le Cocq are the latest casualties.

Blair has broken a hand and will be out for a few weeks and Robin a torn groin muscle.

The good news is that the 2nds have not got a game this weekend because many of them will be required at Footes Lane for Saturday’s 2.15pm kick off.

As for the ladies, who kick off at 11.30 on Sunday morning, the coach is confident of a second win.

‘Fortunately we didn't suffer any major injuries during the last game and apart from a few players taking some knocks in training, we have had two superb weeks of training since our last match.'

‘Numbers of players attending training on Monday's and Wednesday's have consistently been hitting the high 20s. There has also been an additional session on the weekend plus the players are supplementing their rugby training during the week with rugby specific gym training which is being led by the Guernsey RDO, Steve Melbourne, which is adding a lot of extra physical strength and fitness to the squad. ‘

‘We are very well prepared for the game.

We know that they lost to Ellingham & Ringwood 36 v 12 on the weekend and we beat E&R the weekend before 15 v 0 so we are feeling very positive that we should get a good result but we're not being complacent as we don't know what players they may or may not have been missing for that game, so we will be approaching the game as if it will be a tough one. We would as always appreciate as much support as possible for this match, the sun is look set to shine so hopefully we'll get another good showing on the touchline.’

Also on Sunday, the club’s Colts and Under-15s are away in the UK playing Hastings & Bexhill and Trojans respectively.

Colts coach Matt Chammings is looking forward to the side’s first fixture in the Sussex Championship league away to Hastings and Bexhill.

‘It’s a tough first game as they have a strong colts section at the club and are a difficult team to break down. We have our second row Jacob Smith (son of former Guernsey captain Mike Smith) available for selection after missing our pre-season friendlies.

‘The side is a real mix of first and second year Colts who have bonded really well as a team. But we are without our Hampshire winger Taylor Quate who is waiting on a shoulder operation so will be out of action until the New Year.

‘This will be the first Sussex fixture for a number of Colts but I'm confident they will rise to the challenge. We have several very talented new players that will want to measure themselves against good opposition.

‘The team has had to learn new calls, defensive systems and a new style of playing, but they have responded well in pre-season and this first league game will be a good test.’

The Under-15s have their own Hampshire League game at Trojans, while the U13s are playing a friendly in Jersey.

Good luck to all the sides!
