2nds travel to Buccaners to maintain their unbeaten record in the JRA

It's been a tough week and lots of phone calls for Mark Stone who has finally managed to confirm Guernsey 2nds selection as they prepare to travel to Jersey tomorrow to take on Buccaneers in the JRA League.

It is a very inexperienced squad but the coach is not too despondent.

‘We still have a squad of 20 travelling over, as well as a front row volunteer from Banks.

‘Rich Hile, Russ Roberts, Alec Bailey and Barry Goude provide the experience, and regular 2nds Cally Murdoch and Dale Martin are available. ‘

It is, though, a very youthful squad which hope to get the result and preserve the side’s unbeaten start to the season.

‘We have 11 players not yet out their teens travelling. This is a bit of a double edge sword in that its great to have this many kids coming though, but we planned to phase their integration into the JRA squads at a slower pace than we have been forced this week.

‘What it does do is prove the value of games such as last week [inter-club friendly] as all the guys have travelling have played at least one game of senior rugby with the exception of Gearoid Lee who will make his debut off the bench on the wing.

‘’Gaz’’ is an exciting prospect with a similar skill set to his brother Seoirse and once he has some experience of the senior game under his belt we can look to move him into some more influential roles in the back line,’ said the coach.

‘Charlie Scott is another young lad with a promising future, he is a big strong runner that is only going to get bigger and stronger if he sticks to his training plan, he’s another that will be looking to make a bigger impact as his experience grows.

‘We had an honest chat at training last night about how we are under no illusions that this will be far and away our toughest test of the season to date, and the biggest game some of these lads have played in before. We know we have to play harder, run faster and execute with more accuracy than any game to date but I’m confident that these lads can step up to the challenge and put in the performance their abilities deserve.
