OWEN THOMAS converted a late penalty try from in front of the posts and Raiders sneaked a hard-earned win in National Three London

OWEN THOMAS converted a late penalty try from in front of the posts and Raiders sneaked a hard-earned win in National Three London and South East, a result which keeps alive their hopes of a top four push.

Raiders were trailing 15-21 with just a couple of minutes left when Malcolm Barnes broke only to be held up just short of the line.
Wimbledon were penalised and with nothing less than a converted score required the visitors opted for a catch and drive from a lineout.

The tactic worked a treat because as Raiders pushed for the line Wimbledon were penalised for coming in from the side and with the penalty try awarded the fly half was given the task to win the game which he duly accepted.

Raiders scored two first half tries from Glen Walters, one converted by Thomas, but went into the break trailing 13-12.

Straight from the restart Raiders claimed the ball and in sight of the posts Thomas kicked a drop goal which put the visitors back in front, albeit briefly.

Wimbledon edged back in front from a penalty and seemed to have won the game when they scored another try to lead 21-15, but Raiders were not done and hit back late on to secure win which lifts them to within a point of sixth-placed Shelford.
