TWO MORE OLDER FACES RETURN
AFTER a nail biting finish to a torrid match last week GLR - who held on against Havant - are preparing to play Windsor Dames on the Garenne Stand at Footes Lane on Sunday lunchtime, 1pm kick off.
Fortunately there were no serious injuries and GLR are able to field a strong squad, consisting of a mix of youth and experience, with established players Carly Duchemin and Anneka Saunders returning for the first time this season, a week after Heidi Mahy made her opening appearance of the campaign.
Enforced changes in the backline due to players being unavailable shouldn’t impact on the style of rugby that GLR like to play and is a reflection on the growing strength in depth of the squad.
In the last few matches unforced errors and an unacceptably high penalty count have meant that GLR have put themselves under immense pressure and rectifying these issues has been a target, which seems to have been met in training and hopefully replicated in a match situation.
A quick turnaround between matches has meant training has been scaled back a bit this week to give players a chance to recover but hopefully this week's preparation and the work the team has put in so far this season will pay dividends and be enough to beat Windsor who are currently fourth place in the league, six points behind Guernsey but with two games in hand.
