After three free-scoring wins ion the bounce to move top of the South East South One table Guernsey Ladies head to Canterbury on Saturday for what we expect to be a genuinely tough encounter.

Coach Chris Griffiths is optimistic but says that he wants to guard against any complacency, particularly in defence, ‘Obviously we are full of confidence after the performances of our opening three games and we will certainly be looking to bring back another bonus point win if possible. However we are not underestimating how strong Canterbury could be and any win away from home is always a good result so winning will be our primary aim and getting the bonus point will be just that. We have been working very hard on our defensive patterns this week and I will be hoping to see even more improvements in this area as it is likely will be tested more than we have been in the opening matches so our line speed and tackling need to be spot on.’

He adds: ‘We are confident our forwards will once again be strong in the set piece and should get us on the front foot, and with the 9, 10, 12 axis playing so well going forward this season I am sure we will get opportunities to score out in the backs especially with the pace of the back three we have this weekend.’

Griffiths gives debuts to two more players in Aimee Gaudion on the wing and Rebecca Drury in the second row, the former offering really pace out wide and the latter offering real power and presence especially in the scrums.
