A great win for our first league game after only four training sessions.

We added more training on a Thursday night to work on the set piece which worked well as Guernsey executed set pieces that impressed the Edenbridge Coaches and their supporters. The Edenbridge Coaches also applauded the work that Guernsey put in with rucking as when we met them last year they were the better team in this area. This was one of the skills we have been working on.

The game finished with Guernsey winning 19 points to 17.

It was a tough game from start to finish with some big hits coming from Arwyn Williams (Captain) which set the bar for the rest of the game.

Our first try came from a ruck which tied up scrum half Alex Simpson so Nathan Bromley stepped in from his 10 position. There was some great work from the forwards counter rucking which allowed Nathan to pass to new man Leo Foulds on the blind side, Leo turned the Edenbridge defence inside out for an 80m run to score in the corner.

Ben Solway's conversion was just short from a difficult kick out wide

Edenbridge came back with two quick tries from some strong running and good passing adding one successful conversion.

Halftime was getting closer and Guernsey did not want to go into the second half behind.

The determination and strong running from Guernsey unfortunately led to the ball being knocked on. Scrum down to Edenbridge, Guernsey won the ball against the head. Quick ball was had and the ball went through the hands to outside center Patrick Carpetier who broke through the first tackle to run 30 meters. Patrick dropped his shoulder in contact and gave a lovely off load to Leo to touch down under the posts. Ben Solway converted to equal the score at halftime.

The second half was a much tighter game with Guernsey keeping most of the ball. Edenbridge eventually broke through some great Guernsey defence to score in the corner, the conversion went wide.

Guernsey were quick to follow up with a barn storming run up the middle from Connor Slane to score under the posts. Ben kicked the conversion witch gave Guernsey a two point lead.

At the restart Edenbridge came back strong and Guernsey were penalised for hands in the ruck right on full time. Edenbridge kicked for touch, the line out went to Edenbridge, as the line out is uncontested Edenbridge won the ball. The ball was quick to get to the opposite side of the field to their wing where John Welborne put in a crunching tackle to stop the try.

Edenbridge were quick to recycle and the ball found its way to the Edenbridge number 8 who was heading for the corner. Just when we thought it was all over Patrick dived mid air, snagged their number 8 by the shirt and brought him to the ground. This resulted in a knock on by Edenbridge, but not waiting for the whistle Jake Swaisland picked up and kicked for touch.

Game over.

With the new addition of flankers at U14 to bring it to a 15 man team, it must be said that Francios Le Poidevin and Marcus Whitfield adapted well in their new positions. Their speed to the break down, pick up and carry was brilliant and like all good flankers they were annoying!!

Leo Foulds was our Man Of The Match.

Well done lads!
