Dings Crusaders 38, Raiders 12

ANOTHER day on the road, another defeat, another serious injury.
On top of that, throw in a potentially serious knee injury to newbie Henry Greenhalgh, and you have to start to wonder whether Jordan Reynolds ran over a black cat at some stage this summer.

First the injuries.
Alex Gow went down just before half-time and after a lengthy wait was transported to hospital - not by ambulance, not by dad’s car, as was the case with Charlie Currie - but a van, thanks to a kind Dings supporter.
As for the game, Raiders enjoyed a flying start but could not maintain it.
But, it has to be said, there were positives to take and if our luck ever changes then the wins should come. Or some anyway.
In the initial stages when Dings looked as if the game was already in the bag, were 7-0 down.
Raiders’ forwards dominated procedures from the first whistle and within 5 minutes, from a line out, the Raiders drove over the home side's try line for Dom Rice to claim the score.
Henry Greenhalgh converted.
The Raiders continued to take the game to their opponents but poor ball retention and the Ding’s good defence kept the score board from ticking over.
Another attack from the green-and-whites led to a scrum which itself led to Ding’s first attack into the Raiders half and resulted in a converted try.
Ding continued to repel the Raiders attacks and with their only second visit to the Raiders half scored a team try with the backs and forwards combining well, eventually out numbering the Raiders defence to score a smart try, converted.
At this point Gow was tackled and had to leave the field of play on a stretcher and eventually be taken to hospital while the rest of the half was played out.
It had been a good first 40m minutes by the visitors and the score certainly did not reflect the course of the game.
With a few more injuries incurred to Raiders the home side started to take control of the game and the points piled up.
First, a knock-on by Guernsey sent the impressive Ding back-line away to score.
The conversion was missed but another home try followed shortly afterwards, again carved out by the backs with the impressive centre no 13 running free to the try line.
This time it was converted and the game looked gone for us at 26-7.
Another unconverted try followed before Raiders fought back with a rumble over the line and Layton Batiste was held up.
With a second attempt Raiders drove over the line with the backs joining the forwards for Malcolm Barnes to come up with the ball for a try.
Back rower George Shannon, taking over the kicking duties after Henry Greenhalgh left the field with a bad knee injury, missed the conversion.
In the last few minutes Dings ran in a fine try again through their backs. The score was converted and the scoring done.
Overall, it was a good performance by Raiders and the score was in no way a fair reflection on how they performed.
But, again, some silly mistakes were again pounced on by the opposition, a recurring problem.
There was some consolation, however, with news that fellow strugglers Birmingham & Solihull, London Irish Wild Geese and Old Redcliffians, all lost.
