REYNOLDS UPBEAT AND HOPEFUL
Who plays 10, who plays across the backline and who sits on the replacements bench, has been foremost in Jordan Reynolds’ mind these past few days.
Henley arrive at Footes Lane tomorrow afternoon and the Raiders head coach is keen to build on last weekend’s gutsy display in defeat at Ding’s Crusaders.
On Henley arriving, he said: 'It's exciting for us and it will be another top fixture.
'This is a side that's well supported.
'Their team sheet doesn't seem to change from week to week.
'But we want to build on last week and we want to make sure we are defensively strong.'
Reynolds, who won’t formalise his side till perhaps as late as Saturday morning as he gives a few walking wounded every opportunity to recover, saw a lot of good at Ding’s Crusaders.
And despite the lengthy injury list, he is confident that victories are not far away.
But taking chances is key, he says.
'Ding's had six opportunities to score and scored with all six,' lamented the coach.
'We had 16 and scored two.
'By half time we should have been five or six tries up. We knocked on, dropped the ball over the line. We are lacking in confidence.'
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that regular fly-half, Henry Greenhalgh, is out for the remainder of the season.
'He has completely ruptured his ACL,' said a frustrated head coach who may give the 10 shirt to Malcolm Barnes or Elia Morisio against Henley.
But, worryingly, Moriso is among the walking wounded and is rated doubtful.
There are also doubts over Anthony Armstrong, Chris Ahne and Douglas Horrocks, while the versatile Luke Sayer is out for two to three months.
As for young Alex Gow, badly injured at Ding’s, he had his leg plated and pinned in the UK at the start of the week and should hopefully be back on island soon.
Naturally, all at the club, wish the best of luck to Alex, Henry and Luke, as they go through a long period of rehab.
Kick off is at 3:30pm.
In contrast, the Guernsey Ladies are spoilt for choices as they prepare to welcome Witney Ladies to the Garenne Stand on Sunday.
A trip to Witney in September saw Steve Evans’ side come away with a good 53-0 win and although Witney have had a difficult season so far, they are certainly not a team to be taken lightly.
The Guernsey side have a familiar look to the 22 with newbie player Laura Sweeney making the No 3 shirt her own and scrum half Lucy Pratt playing her last game as an U18.
After a good win against a strong Windsor Ladies team two weeks ago that moved the Ladies into third place in the table only four points behind leaders London Welsh, the GLR coaching team are looking to gain maximum points this week to keep on target to hit one of their season goals, which is finishing in the top three.
Captain Ellie Whittles will lead a formidable team that sees former Premiership player Daisy Anna Travers starting at No. 8 with centre partners Vicki Rang and Hannah Guilbert forming part of an exciting back line.
Kick Off Sunday is at 1pm.
Squad: 1. Andrea Harris 2. Michelle Schofield 3. Laura Sweeney 4. Ellie Whittles 5. Kristine Vavere 6. Fiona Power 7. Jessica Melville 8. Daisy Travers 9. Lucy Pratt 10. Justeen Baker 11. Sophie Ferbrache 12. Hannah Guilbert 13. Vicki Rang 14. Aimee Le Bachelet 15. Lael Hollingworth.
