REYNOLDS CALLS ON HIS BIGGEST GUNS
THE heaviest artillery available to Raiders will run onto the field in Essex tomorrow as they attempt to do what 51 sides have failed to do in recent years and that is beat the Rochford Hundred.
Three more teams have been added to the Hundred’s scalps since the start of the London & South East season and that has taken them to top of the table.
‘It’s a really good challenge for us. Rochford offer us a bigger test than what we’ve already had.
‘But we are pretty confident in our own ability and we we’ve got to go out there full-noise,’ he said after the squads’s final training session.
‘We are going to have to be on the money.’
Squad wise the Raiders welcome back their captain Lewis Hillier, front rower Sam Steventon and No. 8 Douglas Horrocks.
‘Hopefully the three of them will be fresh,’ said the coach who plans to start with Cameron Craine and Layton Batiste either side of Tom Ceillam with Steventon on the bench with Jacob Pinkney.
‘We had to pick our most physical side and it is up to us to match their pack,’ added the coach.
He said it was tough call to keep Brad Webb in the side ahead of the more experienced Nick Merrien who will instead travel with the Vikings to Bracknell tomorrow.
Matt Thomas has a niggle and might have been risked if wholly necessary, but Reynolds has confidence in the depth of his options.
And for the same reason he sees no need to risk either aggravating Luke Sayer’s groin or Asher Veamatahau’s injury, although twin brother Naki is fit to play.
‘Ash is probably a week away from fitness which means he should be in contention when the Raiders step back out in front of the new-look, dazzlingly blue Footes Lane at home to Tunbridge Wells next Saturday.
But back to the Hundred.
Their last league defeat came on the final day of the 2016-17 season.
Now it is Guernsey’s turn to take on the reigning London North One champions and Essex Senior Cup holders. Kick off at 2:30pm. Check out the Raiders Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.
