SEVEN different try scorers and 16 points from the boot of full-back Sam Whitehead, no wonder the Garenne Stand crowd went home happy at Footes Lane this afternoon.
In contrast, struggling Barnes, who did the double over the Sarnians last season, left battered and bruised both in terms of spirits and body.
The visitors played the final 15 minutes with just 12 men as they lost a succession of players to injuries, and it was in this period that Guernsey took advantage with five tries in the final quarter of the game.
Playing with the wind it took Guernsey just five minutes to go ahead via a push-over score from Tom Ceillam.
Sam Whitehead missed the conversion and before long Barnes levelled the scores with a try from winger Hugh Bevan in the corner, all as a result of a move which started with a clear forward pass.
Guernsey kept cool to regain the lead via a second Ceillam try and by the break we were 25-5 ahead, Whitehead having converted that second score and also the third try on the verge of half-time from Matt Thomas.
In between the full-back also slotted over two penalties.
The second half was a good deal tighter initially but once the Batiste boys were introduced with the visitors struggling for numbers, the home side ran riot.
Both Batistes went over under the posts, Layton’s 10m score being particularly popular among the home fans, and Jim Regnard, Ben McDougall and, finally, Luke Sayer added their names to the try list.
Sayer converted his own score with nonchalance and that was it.
With Westcombe Park losing to Tring Guernsey are now up to eighth in the table and just three points outside sixth spot.
Next up is East Grinstead away next weekend.
