A MIXED day for the club on this soggy Saturday afternoon.
While the firsts were returning to winning ways with a 34-14 the 2nds were wasting a healthy lead in their lunchtime JRA League game against the Jersey 2nds.
At Footes Lane and in front of a Garenne Stand crowd, three first half tries – two from recalled Jason Batiste and one from Cameron Craine – two of which were converted, gave the lads a comfortable 22-0 half-time buffer.
But Jordan Reynolds’ men went to sleep at the start of the second and it needed a converted Thurrock try to kickstart them back into gear.
Tom Ceillam added a third try and Luke Sayer got the fourth but the gloss of a home win was taken off by an injury to skipper Blair Campbell.
Meanwhile, the St Peter Port School pitch was pushed into emergency action for the second XV’s JRA League game and with just 20 minutes remaining the home side were sitting pretty on a 13-0 lead.
The game looked as good as won and playing up the hill towards the old school the home side went for the kill only to twice just fail to add a second try to the one scored by Dave Davison and converted by Alec Bailey.
Then it all went horribly wrong for the home side who generously and sportingly had loaned the visitors a second row prop in Berrion Jones, who came on at tight head with the result that the Jersey scrum finally settled.
With 15 minutes left full-back Ryan Morgan raced down the right touchline to score a superb individual try which was converted by Tommy Turner.
Jersey scored two more tries and the game ended with two of the home side nursing sore heads and having been withdrawn from the very muddy action.
Earlier Guernsey had led 6-0 at the break courtesy of two Bailey penalties.
