'A BLOODY good win' beamed Jordan Reynolds after a terrific 33-28 win over East Grinstead this afternoon, but the same words could also have been uttered by 2nds coach Mark Stone after his side had earlier defeated the JRA League champions Les Quennevais 36-12.
All in all a hugely satisfying day for the club topped off by that nailbiting win in front of a good crowd in the Garenne Stand.
Guernsey ran in five tries and led 21-0 until the brink of half time when, with Luke Sayer in the sin-bin, the home side conceded two converted tries in the space of a minute.
East Grinstead had a foothold in the match, but with a fantastically gritty showing Guernsey pulled away again to be 33-18 up with 80min. On the clock.
Then, incredibly, East Grinstead scored twice in quick succession with Guernsey again down to 14 but, thankfully, the final whistle came after what seemed an age.
Two of the Guernsey tries came from Robin Le Cocq, who had an outstanding game, one from Malcolm Barnes and another from replacement Dale Rutledge. The other was a penalty try. Sam Whitehead converted four times.
In the morning, Dave Davison and Luke Gardner each ran in two tries apiece and there were scores by Dave O'Hanlon and Alec Bailey, who added three conversions.
