If the margin and nature of defeat was not bad enough the sight of two more key players being added to the club’s list of injuries was a knife in the back for Jordan Reynolds as he surveyed the after effects of the hammering at Chichetser.
It‘s fair to say, however, that the hammering was not really that. For much of the game Guernsey were the best side and led 19-14 early in the second period.
But in an incredibly unlucky short passage of play Guernsey lost Malcolm Barnes, Nick Barton and Greg Smith to injury. Boom!!.
No way back when that happens.
Chichester saw and took their chances and their excellent backs took full advantage of a Guernsey side who were sliced to pieces time and again.
On the injury news, Barnes will be out for up to three weeks with his hamstring strain, and Barton will be missing for a similar length of time. Greg Smith may even have a broken ankle, but if not it seems it is a case of severe ligament damage and will be out for many weeks.
The word from the boss is that he won’t rush any players back.
Look out for an interview with Greg Walters in this week’s match programme.
