This end of season spell is full of surprises.

This end of season spell is full of surprises.

But given that Saturday’s opposition are title chasing Tonbridge Juddian, perhaps Jason Batiste is thinking he was not part of the latest selection shock.

Last time it was James Regnard thrown back into 1st XV action to answer the SOS. This time it is the local academy product who due to work commitments stepped away from the first-team scene last year.
But the current injury crisis which sees the likes of Owen Thomas, Malcolm Barnes, Sam Whitehead, Dave Davison and Sam Stables missing from the backline meant that coach Jordan Reynolds has asked Batiste to turn out at Footes Lane on Saturday.

Although he made his name at centre, Batiste will slot in on the wing as Reynolds pairs Ned Brown and Glen Walters in midfield while skipper Blair Campbell stands in for Thomas at fly half.

Reynolds welcomes back Luke Sayer at fullback from a shoulder injury.
The head coach said that given the injury list and time of season with nowhere really to go in the upper mid-table he want his ‘to play some rugby, throw the ball around and have some fun’.

Tonbridge, who are second in the table behind pacesetters and title-favourites London Irish Wild Geese, beat Raiders 32-19 in November.
‘TJs have a big pack and a very mobile backline with good wheels and good kicking options so it will be a good test for us, particularly after what happened at Hertford last time out where we were probably a bit stand-offish so this week we will have to change that mindset.

Kick off is at 2pm.
