RAIDERS dug deep to score a bonus point 29-23 win over Hertford at Footes Lane.

RAIDERS dug deep to score a bonus point 29-23 win over Hertford at Footes Lane.

The win over a side that the previous week had turned over title challengers Tonbridge Juddian, underlines the growing strength and capability of Jordan Reynolds’ squad who are now back in sixth place in a highly congested group of chasers behind the main title contenders London Irish Wild geese and Tonbridge Juddians, both of whom won again this weekend.

Owen Thomas’s converted try early on put Raiders 7-3 ahead but they fell behind and were grateful for Malcolm Barnes’ late score to make it 15-12 at the break.

The highlight of the afternoon was the magnificent jinking third try from Luke Sayer converted by Sam Whitehead and when Raiders were awarded a penalty try, also converted by Whitehead, they were 11 clear going into the last stages.

Hertford kept Raiders fans on their nerves a while longer when they scored another close-range try while Cameron Craine was in the sin-bin, but Raiders deserved their win against a good side.
