The Guernsey Raiders Ladies won their first game of the season on Sunday with a 10-26 victory.

The Guernsey Raiders Ladies won their first game of the season on Sunday with a 10-26 victory.

Coach Steve Evans described the game as a "hard fought and well deserved win that reflects the hard work the squad have put in over the last 18 months. It was just a matter of time, and it sets us up for the second half of the season."

A squad of 16 travelled to face Aylesford Bulls where they faced the ladies for the second time. They last met in November where the ladies lost 14-36.

Marni De Freitas Alves scored her first try for the Ladies, whilst playing in the second row for the first time.

Aideen Le Prevost scored 2 tries for the team, a fourth coming from Liv Kenneally.

Captain Kayleigh Oliver says: "We were building to Sunday's win for a long time, and for all of the team's hard work and dedication to pay off is an absolutely amazing accomplishment."

She added: "We travelled with a small squad, which is always a tougher game to play, but every player put there absolute all in to the game and I couldn't be prouder of the team. Now we have a win under our belts this season, morale is at an all time high, and I know everyone is going to strive to get another win this Saturday."

The ladies had a strong start, with Marni De Freitas' try in the first 15 minutes. It was soon followed by two more tries and a successful conversion. A conceded try to Aylesford left the result at half time 5-19.

The ladies didn't give up in the second half despite conceding another try. Aideen Le Prevost broke the line adding to the score, with Chelsie Blondel adding the extra with a successful conversion.

At the final whistle, the ladies came home with a 10-26 victory.

Assistant Team Manager, Harry Whitehead says: ‘The ladies put on a stellar performance against Aylesford Bulls. Every single player on that pitch gave 100% for the full 80 minutes and worked seamlessly as a team, it was spectacular to watch. The win is testament to the hard work they have all put in and I’m so proud of them.’

The ladies will be back in action on the 17th February as they face the Farnham Falcons at home.
