Guernsey 1st XV record a fantastic win over league leaders Chichester at Footes Lanes, with Luke Sayer grabbing 15 points from the boot on debut.

Thank you to everyone who came down on Saturday to watch an excellent performance from the 1st XV to beat the league leaders. Guernsey remain in fifth place in the league but have closed the gap to just seven points on Chichester, who keep their top place position on points difference.

The delight was there for all to see as Guernsey came through a bruising and eventful rugby encounter against the league leaders on Saturday with a hard-fought victory.

As debutant Luke Sayer made it six successful attempts from six at goal with the final kick of the game at Footes Lane, player-coach Jordan Reynolds threw his arms up in an unusually demonstrative display of emotion.

‘This comes up as one of the proudest moments as a coach,’ said the Australian, with a beaming smile, immediately after the match. ‘We had said this week that we really had to win this game to give ourselves a shot of where we want to be at Christmas.’
