As part of our Centenary year celebrations the Guernsey RFC are pleased to announce that we have chosen the Cardiac Action Group (CAG) as our official centenary charity. We have a priority for health and wish to support this charity whose aims are to raise awareness of heart and health issues in Guernsey.
The club will name the CAG as a player and match sponsor and they will appear on all of our club communications as our Centenary Charity. The aim will be to raise funds to help CAG purchase and provide training for the use of 12 public access defibrillators which will be placed in and around Guernsey, one most certainly at the Garenne Stand. They are designed specifically to treat sudden cardiac arrest, a condition when the heart stops beating unexpectedly.
To kick off this partnership, this Sunday the Guernsey RFC 1st and 2nd team players will participate in the CAG’s Healthy Hearts Day at the Beau Sejour. To show our support the players will be receiving an Athlete Cardiac Screening; one of the prime services of the CAG. This involves having an ECG (electrical tracing of their heart), and echocardiogram (ultrasound for the heart), a consultation with the cardiologist and may have a blood pressure and cholesterol test.
Commenting on this new charity sponsorship, Club Chairman, Carl Johnson said,’The team know that it is a priority to build a healthy community and keen to support it as best they can.’
If you wish to help support this very important cause, there will be collections taken at all the home games or please contact Megan Jones; jones.m.megan@gmail.com
