New Guernsey Ladies Coach gives an update on the season so far

There's been a 4 week gap in our fixtures, but that doesn’t mean that the Guernsey Ladies team has been resting on their laurels following our two early season wins. There has been a significant amount of enthusiasm and hard work displayed in training with the focus on trying to minimise the errors made in the previous two matches - handling and securing the ball in the loose. As the season progresses we do not want to be offering any opportunities to the opposition and we need to ensure we make the most of our chances to score. The squad is becoming more familiar with defensive and attacking structures and systems and it’s obvious that the squad is settling into their roles within them.

Numbers at training have been excellent and means that there is competition for selection across the team and it is reassuring to see that players are rising to the challenge of being first choice. Hopefully given recent news from the RFU we will be able to travel with a squad of 20 rather than 18, which will allow us additional options in our game plan.
Our next match is against London Welsh away and we are looking forward to, hopefully, another successful trip. The whole squad realise that it’ll take a huge effort to get another win, but if recent training sessions are anything to go by it’s an effort everyone is prepared to make.

The U18s Girls Squad are training regularly with the senior ladies team and it is encouraging to see that numbers are growing and that both squads are integrating as the season has progressed. This can only bode well for the future of ladies’ rugby on the island.
