NO RUGBY season would seem complete if Jim Elliott did not get a run out in the Raiders 1st XV.

And we are quite relaxed to say that the old Siam warhorse is back in the side that welcomes Southend Saxons to Footes Lane on Saturday. Like a tornado Jim appears out of nothing and then, no doubt, he will disappear back into the lower ranks having given everyone a reminder of his legend.

The Saxons arrive lying 12th in National Three London & South-East, but it is something of a false position in terms of ability. Having suffered a 10-point deduction due to disciplinary reasons, they are a lot better than that and don’t we know, Saxons having beaten us 34-12 success back in October.

They have also won their last two games against Chichester and Guildford. ‘We have to show them a lot of respect on Saturday,’ noted head coach Jordan Reynolds who is without Dale Martin, Ned Brown and Luke Sayer tomorrow as they are all away.

On top of that Luke Jones has been ruled out due to the hamstring problem he picked up last week at Hertford. Malcolm Barnes, who was outstanding last week, will move out to the wing tomorrow while partnering Elliott in midfield is Jason Batiste.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 2pm.

Raiders team:
Steventon, Ceillam, L. Batiste, Merrien, Skovronek, Hillier, Mercadal, Hill, Nixon, O. Thomas, J. Batiste, Elliott, Barnes, Whitehead, Hellier.

Replacements:
Craine, M. Thomas, Campbell.
