The Guernsey Raiders Ladies secure a 15-40 win away to East Grinstead.
The Guernsey Raiders Ladies got off to an outstanding start, scoring their first try within just three minutes of the opening whistle. Cara Fitzpatrick began with a well-placed tactical 10-metre kick, which East Grinstead quickly returned. Guernsey Fullback collected the ball and the forwards carried with strong support from the centres. Spotting a gap, Fitzpatrick sold a clever dummy pass before breaking through the line to touch down, securing the opening five points.
The momentum continued as Guernsey added a second try within the first 10 minutes. A powerful carry from Tiegan Batiste took play deep into East Grinstead’s 22, setting up the back line. From just five metres out, Aideen Le Prevost finished clinically to extend the lead.
Le Prevost soon struck again for Guernsey’s third try. Following strong work from the forwards at a central scrum, the backs read the defence perfectly, opening space for Le Prevost to burst through. She powered 50 metres to the line, stretching the advantage to 21–0. The fourth try followed in similar fashion, with Le Prevost once more capitalising on Guernsey’s attacking momentum to secure her hat-trick.
After half time, East Grinstead responded strongly, raising their intensity as Guernsey momentarily lost concentration. Sustained pressure eventually paid off, with the visitors crossing for their first try of the match after nearly 20 minutes of play. Their second came soon after, as a Guernsey’s yellow card left gaps in the defence which East Grinstead exploited effectively. They added a third and final try from a penalty awarded at the scrum, using their pace on the wing to run down the sideline and finish in the corner.
Guernsey, however, closed the match on a high note. The final try came from Ness Brown, following a sharp line from Lara Snedden through the centre of the pitch. Snedden offloaded to Brown, who showed excellent speed and agility to loop around the defence and cross the line, securing the last score of the game.
Coaches Callum Gladstone and Josh Collin praised the performance, noting that the ladies played impressively despite having had limited time to run through gameplay as a full squad. They added that the focus now will be on strengthening the platform and continuing to build confidence and trust as one team.
The Guernsey Raiders Ladies will now turn their attention to their next fixture, an away match against Uckfield on 5th October. The squad will be aiming to carry forward their strong form and build on the momentum from this performance.
