Raiders are ready for the run-in as they enter their final block of fixtures for the season, starting tomorrow against Old Albanians and finishing with the Siam Cup.

In between those two home fixtures, Guernsey will also face Bury St Edmunds, leaders Esher and Henley Hawks in National Two East and they still have their highest-ever league finish in their sights with just seven points separating them in 11th from seventh-placed Canterbury.

‘There are some tough games that we have to face – well, let’s face it, every game is pretty tough at this level – but we have got to get through each as it comes,’ said Raiders director of rugby Jordan Reynolds.

‘We have set some targets for this block – I won’t go into specifics, but we felt post-Christmas we played very well and then we’ve had a little dip recently against Canterbury and North Walsham, especially defensively we have not been as good.

‘Against North Walsham that was more of a mindset thing for us possibly, coming up against the bottom side having come off a pretty big run, and the guys were maybe looking towards the break already.

‘But now we are building every game towards the Siam and it is not so much about results, but putting in good performances.’

Guernsey can rise above OAs if they beat them at Footes Lane tomorrow and if they did so, it would complete the double over opposition who they beat 39-26 on the road in February.

‘We had a pretty good game against them – it was the first time we had beaten them away,’ Reynolds said.

‘I think this will be a tighter contest than last time because they will want to rectify a few things and it looks like they have a few new names in their squad, but we maybe have a bit of confidence to take into this game from that last meeting.

‘They are a big unit, they are very direct in their carrying and they defend pretty square. If we go toe-to-toe with them, it’s going to be a long day.

‘They are a physical side, so it’s going to be a battle, but we have got to shift the ball and move it into the right areas. For us it will be about keeping that ball moving and playing the Raiders way.’
