Press Release: Guernsey Raiders Strengthen Island Rugby with Integration of Vikings Senior Men’s Squad

Guernsey Raiders Marketing21 Nov - 16:24

Guernsey Raiders are pleased to announce an important step in strengthening the future of rugby on the island

Guernsey Raiders are pleased to announce an important step in strengthening the future of rugby on the island, with the senior men’s second team - previously operating under the St Jacques Vikings structure - now being formally integrated into the main Guernsey Rugby framework.

This strategic move supports the club’s long-term work to develop rugby at every level, creating a clearer and more joined-up pathway for players from the Academy through to senior rugby.

Chair of GRFC, Gary Haycock-West, said:
“We’re delighted to have Colin on board. He brings great insight and has already made a strong contribution. This integration strengthens our structure and ensures we can continue providing a clear, supportive pathway for every player on the island. We’re fully committed to running and supporting a strong second team as part of that future.”

The decision to bring all senior men’s rugby under a single club structure reflects a shared commitment to clarity, good governance and the long-term growth of rugby in Guernsey.

Looking Ahead
The Vikings squad will remain a vital part of the senior men’s structure, continuing as the club’s second team and providing an important bridge for developing emerging talent. This move is designed to ensure stability and to give every player the best opportunity to compete, grow and enjoy the game.

The current Board will now oversee the full club structure and finances, providing consistency in vision, decision-making and day-to-day management. This integration supports the club’s long-standing focus on retaining and developing players, running the organisation effectively and remaining closely connected to the local community.

This unification is about looking forward, securing a robust future for the sport, and inspiring the next generation of Guernsey rugby talent.

Introduction of Colin Vaudin
We’re pleased to welcome Colin Vaudin to the Board of GRFC in the role of Vice-Chair. Colin has worked closely with the Vikings set-up and is a well-respected referee within the Guernsey rugby community.

Colin’s role will be central to the future of Guernsey rugby, with an initial focus on supporting the smooth transition of the second team into the unified club structure.

Vice-Chair of GRFC, Colin Vaudin, said:
‘‘I’m delighted to join the Board of GRFC as the Vice-Chair. Rugby is a major part of our community and we only want to make it stronger for players, supporters and back-room staff. The One Club initiative provides the framework for the future of Guernsey rugby and I’m delighted to be part of that journey”.

Colin grew up playing rugby in Guernsey up to Colts level before joining the Army, where he played for around 20 years for a range of Army and civilian sides (including Supermarine and Melksham). He has refereed across the Army, Hampshire and Guernsey, and has dedicated nearly a decade to refereeing locally.
