CHRIS GRIFFITHS’ Guernsey ladies team head back to the UK this Sunday for their biggest match of the NC South East South One campaign to date.

At stake is first place in the table. Lewes have clearly come on a huge amount from last season when we beat them very convincingly in both home and away games. By most accounts they have a new coach this season and have picked up some new players along the way, and by looking at their results it is clear that they will be a very different proposition to last season.

But for all that Griffiths is confident, ‘I know that we have also improved our game and our conditioning is even better than it was last season so all the signs are pointing to it being a close match, but one we certainly hope we can win. We have a clear game plan for this weekend and if we stick to it I am confident we can get a really great result in what is yet another tricky away game.’

For what is a fifth away game in six starts, the squad is looking strong and have trained really well since the win against Medway, ‘I know the players really want to win this game and try and lay down a marker that they are the best team in this league,’ added Griffiths.
‘The forward display against Medway in the last match was a very powerful one where they really imposed themselves upon the opposition and we will be hoping to gain an advantage up front again against Lewes this Sunday. The only notable change is at No.8 where Eleanor Woodward comes in for the absent Ellie Whittles. Eleanor has played No.8 previously and did a great job there so I am sure she will do herself proud again on Sunday.'

‘If we can get the platform we are after and maintain possession well and really front up physically, keeping a high level of intensity and concentration until the final whistle I am sure the ladies will put on another impressive performance.'
