It was a performance full of power and pace that kept Guernsey on the front foot virtually from first whistle to last, but it spoke volumes for the character of the side that one big defensive effort late on that pushed the visitors backwards from the Guernsey 22 until they were forced into touch on halfway was met with as much satisfaction as any of the tries they scored.
The whole squad played their part in this win, but none more so than captain Kristine Vavere, who was immense throughout, while one of the more unsung members of the side, centre Hannah McLellan, impressed and thoroughly deserved her two second-half tries having already teed up several scores for teammates.
Of course, there were also the obligatory hatful for points for both Carly Parrott and Jemma Crouse.
The tone for the game was set from the moment Beccehamian knocked on at the opening kick-off and Guernsey then dominated the resultant scrum.
Soon Fiona Power was diving over next to the posts for the opening try after Tanya Scholtz’s strong run and Guernsey were off and running.
Some great hands at close quarters along the backline set up Parrott for the first of her four tries 10 minutes later and then Vavere got in on the act as she scored from a pick-and-go after Kaitlin Donaldson had been hauled down just short of the line.
McLellan’s beautifully-timed offload gave Parrott a massive gap to exploit for her second on 20min. and she went over untouched before the bonus-point fifth try arrived on 31min. as Heidi Mahy ripped the ball from Beccehamians close to their line and spun over the line to score.
On the stroke of half-time, Eleanor Woodward and McLellan combined well to set up Anneka Saunders, who made it 34-0 at the interval.
By that point, Guernsey had lost influential fly-half Fiona Ashworth to injury, but it did not stop their momentum after the turnaround.
Parrott completed her hat-trick on 45min. and moments later Power broke through the defence to score her second.
A trademark scrum-half snipe then brought a try for Crouse then McLellan powered over for back-to-back scores in the space of four minutes.
Unsurprisingly, it was the pace of Parrott that completed the scoring in the dying seconds as she collected a loose ball and darted under the posts as the referee played an advantage for a high tackle 5m out.
Crouse added seven conversions in total.
