LADIES - TIME TO TAKE STOCK AND REST

CHRIS GRIFFITHS and the Guernsey Ladies missed out on the early Xmas present they hoped to steal at Guildford Gazelles last weekend.
It was something of a battering for our girls, who felt the full force of a highly impressive Guildford squad.
And with that in mind Griffiths says he thinks the Christmas break has come at a good time ‘to take stock of where we are and for players to get over injuries and fatigue’.

‘They have earned a break, the last two games have been very physical and were back to back weekends. Hopefully with two home games in January and after a rest we can come back stronger and give opposition teams a bit more to think about,’ he added.
Given the formbook he knows it will not be easy and Griffiths says he has had to adjust his pre-season targets.
‘Our goal now is to try and stay up if we possibly can and that means that every point counts and there will be some crucial games against Teddington and Cullompton in particular that we simply must get a result in.’
As for the Guildford game, he is honest to admit they were good: ‘extremely clinical especially with turnover ball, which probably accounted for more than half of the tries they scored’.

‘They were very fast and strong at the breakdown and turned over an awful lot of possession, every time it seemed that we were getting up a head of steam and gaining good field position they would somehow manage to get their hands on it and run it back to score.
This was of course very frustrating and demoralising for the players and I think in the second half heads did start to drop, although I have to say that as always the ladies did fight on right until the end.’

The Guernsey Raiders Ladies are back in action on Sunday 14th January, noon, at Footes Lane against Reading Abbey Ladies.
