STEVE EVANS’ Guernsey Ladies were knocked off top spot in NS South East West 1 on the Footes Lane club pitch last Saturday.
Portsmouth Valkyries never looked back from the moment they opened the scoring inside the first 90 seconds of the match after a Guernsey player was ruled to have come in at the side of a ruck to give away a penalty deep inside their own 22.
The Valkyries quickly spread the ball wide out to the left-hand side where their fullback went over.
Within four minutes they had doubled their lead as their fly-half managed to cling on to a pass after juggling it initially and forced her way over from close range.
From the restart after that second try, Valkyries knocked on, giving Guernsey their first real chance of the game and although the passing was ragged, Daisy Travers, sponsored by Guernsey Gas, collected the loose ball and burst through to score a fine individual try.
Portsmouth were soon back on the front foot, though, and another turnover inside the Guernsey 22 was quickly turned into another five points out wide.
The visitors scored twice more in the final five minutes of the half, both coming via the pacy outside centre to make it 25-5 at half-time.
The second half produced three more scores, two for the visitors and one for the home team via Tanya Scholtz, sponsored by Little Big Hotel Group.
The result lifted the victors into second spot, although it is now London Welsh Ladies sitting pretty at the top having thrashed Witney 58-7 on Sunday.
