Jersey prove too strong for our mixture of youth - plenty of that on show - and experience.

There was plenty of club interest in the Jordan Reynolds coached ‘Guernsey’ representative team that lost 22-41 to Jersey’s best of the rest, which means anyone below their professional and Athletic set-ups.

But they still proved too strong for our mixture of youth - plenty of that on show - and experience.

And with pace to burn in the centres Jersey's backs made Guernsey pay for some poor defensive cover and romped away to retain the inter-insular trophy.

Flattered by young Callum Gladstone's early try, Guernsey were outmuscled by the sister isle's third team - in effect - and blown away by Rupert Lee who ran in three of Jersey's seven tries.

Yet it started so well for the Greens.

After just four minutes Chris Ahne slipped a short pass to his young winger Gladstone and he darted 30 metres to the line before veering sharp left to touch down under the posts and give Alec Bailey the easiest of conversions.

It was not long, though, before Lee was threatening with a devastating combination of pace and power.

A desperate tackle stopped him in his tracks once but 21 minutes in he was fed by fly half Wayne Boschat and raced away to score, Adam Spencer levelling the scores with the conversion.

By half time Jersey led 24-7 and had a stranglehold on the match.

Lee raced 40m to scored his side's second unconverted Ray and when Wayne Boschat went over and added the extras off the post.

The picture soon got bleaker.

On the brink of half-time the pacy winger Will Dawson, who was later to pick up an ankle injury which for a while seemed serious, brushed past two weak touchline challenges and added try number four which Boschat failed to add to with the boot.

Guernsey's young side were crying out for some experience and additional bulk and at the start of the second half Darrin Bellingham and Jim Elliott were thrown on by coach Jordan Reynolds and both men carried a threat in attack.

The pair looked certain to score in the early stages, but Elliott was upended a yard short and even though Bellingham appeared a yard over the line, referee Chris Griffiths was unable to confirm a score with jersey bodies buried beneath.

Dale Martin and Rich Hile also just failed to get the ball down before Jersey killed them off with another Lee try at the end of an impressive 40m burst.

Boschat again missed out in adding the extras, but soon after Cally Murdoch, who had a strong game at hooker, tried to run away from his own 22 and when tackled his attempted pass went straight to Hugo Lough, the big No. 8, who raced away to score.

Spencer converted.

St Jacques’ Airey Cleere respond with two late tries, one of them converted, but the final say was with the Red pack who bundled over to complete the scoring with Hugo Lough having the ball in hands as it was touched down.
