Guernsey seconds started the New Year in great form with a huge win against local rivals St Jacques.
Despite the heavy pitch Guernsey played high tempo rugby, with the forwards winning quick ball to release the backs at every opportunity. Two Dave Davison tries either side of one from Alex Miller gave Guernsey a 19-0 lead after just over ten minutes, all coming from good running lines and support play. Guernsey kept up the intensity and repeatedly broke through the St Jacques defence with strong runs, particularly from Davison, Miller, Barry Goude, Nick Merrien and Jim Elliott (making his return from a year off). The only negative from a Guernsey perspective was that a couple of great chances were blown, but before half-time Davison completed his hat-trick and Alec Bailey also added a try.
Guernsey set out to keep a clean sheet in the second half, but an intercept try from Brett McFarlane briefly gave St Jacques hope of a comeback. This was shortlived though, as Miller added his second try before further tries were scored by Merrien, Goude, Elliott, Andy Rigden, Leon Gardner and a fourth for Davison. Rory Jones capped the 13 try win with the final play of the game.

Coach Dave Wallace pointed out veteran flanker John Morris for special praise, but this was a very strong performance from a second team with players still to return to the squad.
