THE returning Matt Creber made an instant impact on his return to the Raiders side at Old Albanian on Saturday.
And despite the narrow loss, there was much to gain from the performance said Director of rugby Jordan Reynolds.
Exeter University student Creber, who will be available all of next season on completion of his studies, was excellent and turned in a try-scoring MoM performance, making gain-line successes and his tackling was really impressive too.
As the visitors earned themselves a four-try consolation point and very nearly collected a second losing bonus, the tries came from Prop Darrin Bellingham, center Ciaran McGann and there was a penalty try thrown into the mix.
It seemed Michael Jamieson also had a really strong game at fullback and also pleasing was the fact that Matt Armstrong played the entire 80 minutes as he hones his recon very to full fitness after many weeks out with ligament damage to an ankle.
Given that the Raiders team had wholesale changes, particularly in the forwards, it was a good day out for the lads and an encouraging one, too, for the coaching team. Jordan has previously mentioned the need to focus our attention on next season Jordan said "Although making changes to our squad will be disruptive, we also have a unique opportunity to freshen up our team and give players needed playing minutes".
"We changed 9 players from the previous week and still competed which shows we are building great depth. "
The side are away again this weekend at Bury St Edmunds.
