THE CAPTAIN’S BACK
IF THE Raiders boys needed a lift it has come this week with the sight of the skipper full out in training.
Yep, for the last home league game of a long, long season, Lewis Hillier returns for the visit of a quality Worthing side.
The visitors are sitting pretty, and safely in fourth place in the table; like us, there is nothing hanging on the game but pride.
Will that mean they arrive in holiday mode, or their brains on the beach?
‘It would be good to think that, but I don’t think that will happen,’ says director of rugby Jordan Reynolds.
‘More like they will use their last game to have a bit of fun. They like to throw the ball around anyway.’
With the Siams just around the corner the return of both Hillier and Matt Thomas is plainly good news and the head coach is close to having all his big guns fit and firing.
Ciaran McGann picked up an injury last week but it is not as bad as first feared and could come into contention for Jersey.
From his point of view you would hope so because injury kept him out of the autumn Siam and what would have been his debut.
Reynolds must feel this squad is getting closer to what we can expect for Siam but isn't giving much away.
‘Selections will always be tough leading into big games, we are allowing the players to force our hand with good team performances and Saturday is another opportunity to show case this,’ he reported this week.
Matt Armstrong also returns on Saturday and gets a run out on the wing.
Kick off is at 3pm.
